We were recently called out to survey a property after the occupants reported a persistent mouldy smell that they couldnāt trace. At first glance, the property appeared fine, but as always, we know that mould has a sneaky way of hiding where itās least expected. Thatās where Mr. Flood Ltd steps in. šš
š Investigation & Discovery
Our thorough investigation soon uncovered the culprit: an unattended leak originating from the loft space. The leak had gone unnoticed for quite some time, leading to a large microbial outbreak that had been silently spreading.
What made this case particularly dangerous was the fact that the mould was encapsulated between two layers of plasterboard in the bedroom ceiling. This meant:
No visible signs of mould to the untrained eye
Serious health risks due to hidden spores
The structural integrity of the ceiling was compromised
Had this been left just a few days, weeks, or even months longer, the ceiling could have collapsed, potentially causing serious injury to anyone sleeping beneath it.
šØ Swift Action & Remediation
Thankfully, the customer reached out to us before disaster struck. Hereās how we tackled the issue:
1. Ceiling Removal š :
Carefully removed the double-layered plasterboard ceiling to expose the extent of the damage.
Ensured no debris contaminated other areas of the property.
2. De-Nailing the Joists šØ:
Stripped the joists of any nails to prepare the area for deep cleaning and treatment.
3. 4-Stage Mould Remediation Process š§¼:
Stage 1: Contained the affected area to prevent cross-contamination.
Stage 2: HEPA vacuuming to capture mould spores and debris.
Stage 3: Applied a biocide treatment to eliminate all microbial activity.
Stage 4: Final wipe-down and treatment to ensure complete eradication of spores.
4. Air Quality Assurance š¬:
Monitored moisture levels and air quality to ensure the property was safe for reoccupation.
ā Outcome
Thanks to our quick response and meticulous process:
The hidden mould was completely eradicated.
The structural safety of the ceiling was restored.
The property was left clean, safe, and healthy for the occupants.
Another happy customer, another potential disaster prevented, and another testament to how Mr. Flood Ltd always goes above and beyond to protect both property and people. š”
